Brighstone Preschool Summer Project

This summer, we have been busy developing a new outdoor area designed especially for our 2’s and under children.

It has been lovely to watch the space transform over the summer, creating a dedicated area where our youngest children can enjoy all the benefits of being outdoors in an environment designed with their needs in mind.

As part of the project, a new fence and artificial grass have been laid to create a safe, accessible and inviting space where our youngest children can explore, move, play and learn throughout the year.

The new surface will provide a more practical outdoor environment, allowing children to enjoy fresh air and outdoor experiences whatever the season.

And, as you can see from our photographs, the children have already been making themselves at home! From climbing and balancing to crawling through tunnels, investigating toys and simply enjoying the freedom to move around outdoors, there are lots of opportunities for little adventures.

Learning through outdoor play

Outdoor play is an important part of every child’s development.

Our new area will give our under-2s opportunities to develop their physical skills, confidence, coordination and independence, while also encouraging curiosity, exploration and social interaction.

For our youngest children, everyday play can offer so many opportunities for learning. Navigating a climbing frame, moving through a tunnel, reaching for an interesting object or playing alongside another child can all help them discover what their bodies can do and become increasingly confident in their abilities.

Having a dedicated outdoor space also means our practitioners can provide experiences suited to the ages, interests and individual development of our youngest children, while giving them the freedom and time to explore at their own pace.

A space for exploring together

We are delighted with the transformation of this part of our Brighstone Preschool garden. What was previously an unused area has become a welcoming space ready for movement, discovery, play and learning.

Most importantly, it gives our 2’s and under children another safe and stimulating environment in which to be curious, build confidence and enjoy being together.



We’re looking forward to seeing how the children use the space and all the new discoveries, friendships and milestones that will happen here throughout the year. 💚
